To celebrate the launch of this newsletter, we've chosen to analyze the chorus of a trendy song. We are sure you couldn't escape the trend on social media about "첫 λ§λ¨μ κ³νλλ‘ λμ§ μμβ (Plot Twist) from the rookie boy group TWS ν¬μ΄μ€!
Check out the video below!
We were immediately captivated by its profound meaning and ability to capture the essence of nervousness and uncertainty accompanying a first encounter (like us today!). The lyrics of this song explore the complex and universal emotions that arise when meeting someone for the first time, revealing the contrast between our expectations and the reality of these encounters.
μ€λμ λ Έλ κ°μ¬λ₯Ό ν΅ν΄ νκ΅μ΄ ννμ 곡λΆν κ±°μμ! Today, we are going to study Korean expressions through song chorus!
μ , oh, λ, νλ
Did you know that Korean has two counting systems? Native Korean numbers and Sino-Korean numbers.
1- Native Korean Numbers (νκΈ μ«μ): Used for counting items up to 99. Mostly used for counting things that don't have specific units or are small in quantity.
2- Sino-Korean Numbers (νμ μ«μ): Derived from the Chinese characters hanja. Used for counting items above 99 and when specific units are involved. Commonly used for age, money, minutes, seconds, etc.
In this case, the song mentions Native Korean numbers to do a countdown μ , oh, λ, νλ translated to three, oh, two, one.
첫 λ§λ¨μ λ무 μ΄λ €μ
첫 (cheot) - First.
λ§λ¨ (mannam) - Meeting. From the verb λ§λλ€ (mannada). Some verbs ending with the letter 'λ―Έμ' (mieum) 'γ ' indicate a noun. In this case, λ§λ¨ is a meeting from the verb to meet λ§λλ€.
μ΄λ €μ (eoryeowo) - Difficult. From the verb μ΄λ ΅λ€ (eoryeopda). The opposite of the verb 'difficult' is 'easy' μ½λ€ (swipda).
λ무 (neomu) - Too much.
The sentence 첫 λ§λ¨μ λ무 μ΄λ €μ means First meetings are too difficult.
